A generally great posting from One Utah.  President Carter’s image is rightfully getting resurrected in the current economic crisis.  Here was a man who spoke sincerely but the American people wouldn’t listen and turned to the first of a number of economic charlatans.    Also see Rick Shenkman’s brand new book Just How Stupid Are We?

Update: a reader points out that this is a speech on energy by Carter, not the one the press did a number on him with that they liked to call the “malaise” speech.

  • Glad you liked the post. Thanks to the magic of the internet, it was easy to find Carter’s speech which had seemingly everybody screaming foul way back in the 70’s. Amazing how everything Carter said has come true. The generations that follow us may never forgive us for ignoring his warnings for so long. I voted for a second term for Carter in my very first vote, but by the time I got home from the polls, it was obvious he was going to lose. I know for sure we would be better off today if he had succeeded. It was disgusting that Reagan never even called him in to talk about the world affairs he had been involved with and symbolically removed the solar panels from the white house.

  • This is not the “malaise” speech, that speech was delivered on July 15, 1979 and the one you have linked is just an energy-related speech delivered April 18, 1977.
